the nra says they will do a press conference in pretty short order. they are going to start to address some of these issues. you're right to point out since the expiration of the assault weapons ban in 2004, the reason it hasn't been reinstituted is because not just because of republican opposition to it but because of a lot of democrats as well. now that is changing, especially after this connecticut tragedy. a lot of people who resisted this kind of thing in the past now are saying we have to take another look at this. so the political dynamics may be changing, mart. martha: it seems, apparent, doug, you have to two things. you have to make it a little more difficult for people in this young man's condition wherer clearly should not have had any access to any of these kinds of weapons so he can't get his hands on them. but also people like his mother who is very controversial character in all of this but we know that she was in a very difficult situation. she had a son on her hands she said she was losing control of and she was concerned about. so y
